Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a small batch bourbon. The Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is always bottled as a 12 year old and, although it is not mentioned on the front label, this does appear on the back label.
Each batch of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is an uncut Small Batch of 12-year-old Bourbon bottled straight from the barrel. The variance in proof from batch to batch presents a unique opportunity to explore the impact of the angel’s share and the resulting proof in a small batch of barrels. The first letter of the batch number indicates which of that year’s releases the bottle was a part of, starting with “A,” while the second digit is a number that determines the month of the year the bottle was released. The third and fourth digits indicate the year. This bottling is from September 2016, batch number C916. The Mash Bill: is 75% Corn, 13% Rye and 12% Malted Barley. The Barrel Char Level is #3.
Elijah Criag is named after the father of Bourbon, Reverend Elijah Craig, and is made at Heaven Hill distillery. Founded shortly after the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, Heaven Hill became the largest independent, family-owned producer and marketer of distilled spirits in the United States. Heaven Hill’s success is due to a mix of good business acumen, continuity, heritage and uncompromising craftsmanship. Heaven Hill is the world’s second largest holder of bourbon whiskey with over 675,000 charred white oak barrels ageing in 42 open-rick warehouses. Double-distillation takes place at the modern Bernheim facility where Craig and Parker Beam produce rye and wheat influenced bourbons as well as straight rye, corn and wheat whiskies, using their own family yeast strain, now in its fifth generation.
