Description
Esk Valley Dry Riesling is made from grapes sourced from vineyards in the Marlborough wine-growing region of New Zealand.
Although the Esk Valley Winery in based in the north of Hawke’s Bay, they do have selected vineyard parcels in other wine-growing regions. The Riesling grapes from this wine are sourced from Marlborough’s Wairau and Awatere valleys. The warmer sites produce wine with a more tropical fruit aspect while the cooler sites offer citrus notes and acidity. The vines are grown on a VSP trellis and managed intensively with low yields. Individual vineyard parcels are hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. The juice is settled bright and cool fermented utilising indigenous and selected yeast strains. Selected ferments are stopped to retain a small quantity of residual sugar to balance the crisp natural acidity in the finished wine. Post ferment, after time on lees the vineyard parcels are blended and bottled. 100% Riesling.
