Fincas de Landaluce Crianza is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes sourced from Bodegas Landaluce’s own vineyards near Laguardia. Laguardia is located at the foot of the Cantabrian mountains in the wine-growing sub-zone of Rioja, Rioja Alavesa. The soils of Rioja Alavesa tend to be poorer than those of the rest of Rioja and the wines are characterised as being fuller-bodied with higher acidity.
Bodega Landaluce was established in 2000 by Goyo Landaluce who wished to focus on low-yielding, very old vines. The vineyards cover some 30 hectares on clay / chalk soils. Approximately 15 hectares have vines of over 40 years (and up to 80) years old. The other 15 hectares of vineyards are between 20 and 40 years old.
The grapes for the Fincas de Landaluce Crianza are sourced from the San Cristobal, La Media Legua, Prado de las Albas and La Laguna vineyards. All grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and fermented in stainless steel vats. The wine is then macerated for 7 to 10 days and undergoes malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels.
Fincas de Landaluce Crianza is a good, clear, dark cherry red colour. It has rich and aromatic nose with hints of rich red fruit, spicy, peppery and vanilla notes. The palate is full and complex with layers of of red fruit and smoky / oaky character. It is a savoury and complex wine with fine tannins and a good freshness on the finish.
Fincas de Landaluce Crianza is a great match for game dishes, red meats, grilled lamb and mature cheeses.
