Description

Godet XO Terre Cognac is probably the Cognac that Godet is most famous for. It is a unique blend of he 6 crus of cognac: Fins-Bois, Bons-Bois, Bois-Ordinaires, Borderies, Grande-Champagne, and Petite-Champagne. As the Godet Cellar Master puts it, “Godet XO Terre Cognac is the earth of Cognac.”

Cognac Godet was founded in 1792 by the Godet Family and remained in Godet family hands until 1984 when it was sold to The Grand Metropolitan Group (later to become Diageo).  However Jean-Jacques Godet, who had remained as CEO was able to buy the House of Godet back from The Grand Metropolitan Group in 1995. Today the 14th and 15th generations of the Godet family are still involved in managing the House of Godet and the Master Blender is Jean Edouard Godet. Cognac Godet are renowned for producing a range of both modern and traditional Cognacs, from a range of terroirs, with a great emphasis on hand-crafting, limited production and a long maturation period.

Godet XO Terre Cognac is a powerful and masculine Cognac, the blending of Cognac from all 6 Cognac crus really is a test of the Master Blender’s skill. For Godet, the XO Terre Cognac is the summit of their blended Cognacs. Cognac is much more than just 1 or 2 famous crus. Crafting Cognac is difficult with 2 crus, so with 6 crus It is even more difficult. The XO Terre crafted today will have similar palate, nose, and colour as the one that will be blended in 15 years.

As an XO Cognac, by law, the minimum age for the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend must be at least 10 years (increased from 6 years in 2018 by the Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac or BNIC). Godet XO Terre Cognac is aged for around 30 years.
