Karisimbi Spiced Rum is a small batch spiced rum made in Hampshire by the Gorilla Spirits Co.
The Gorilla Spirits Co distillery was founded in 2015 and was located in Four Marks near Alton but, in late summer 2018, the distillery relocated to the village of Upton Grey situated to the south east of Basingstoke. Founder and owner Andy Daniels set up Gorilla Spirits Co initially to produce their Silverback Mountain Strength Gin. This has since been followed by a strawberry flavoured gin, an old tom gin and a vodka. This fabulous spiced rum is the most recent addition, and is named after the highest volcanic mountain in the Virunga National Park, which is located between between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Karisimbi Spiced Rum is a multi-island rum, a complex blend of unaged and three to five-year-old rums from the Dominican Republic and Barbados and unaged pot still rums from both Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. The rum is then aged in ex-Bourbon casks and is richly spiced with blood orange, cinnamon, ginger and vanilla, this is a Spiced Rum like no other.
For every bottle of Karisimbi Spiced Rum sold in the UK, depending on the strength, approximately £15 goes straight to the HMRC, frightening isn’t it? Gorilla Spirits add their own GAT (Gorilla Added Tax) and for every bottle of Karisimbi Spiced Rum sold £1 goes directly to The Gorilla Foundation who are working to save the last remaining gorillas from extinction.
Drink neat or over ice, with or without a twist of lime. It is also great mixed with a good cola, ginger beer or as a base for a daiquiri.
