Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Merlot

Description

Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Merlot is a red wine made from grapes sourced from Lapostolle’s famous Apalta vineyard in the Colchagua valley. It is normally a blend of at least 85% Merlot (the minimum that can be used to call it Merlot on the label) with some other grapes. Previous vintages have been Merlot with Carmenere or Merlot with Syrah for example. The 2014 is a blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Carmenère.

Lapostolle owns 370 hectares in three different vineyards and produce a total of 200,000 cases spread across Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère, and Syrah. The Lapostolle winery is located in the town of Cunaco, right next to Santa Cruz. It is the original winery, where Lapostolle was founded in 1994 and today it is here where both the Grand Selection and Cuvee Alexandre wines are produced. With a traditional Chilean old hacienda style, it has a production capacity of 3,300,000 litres in stainless steel and French oak tanks, and more than 3500 French Oak Barrels.

The grapes for Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Merlot were 100% hand-harvested into small 14kg wooden boxes and then underwent very strict fruit selection at the winery. 78% of the grapes are sorted via the Vistalys Berry Selection system and 22% are hand de-stemmed. Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Merlot 2014 was aged for 13 months in French oak barrels: 42% in new oak; 28% in second and 30% in third used French oak barrel.

The 2014 is a blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Carmenère.
