Larios 12 Premium Gin is a new Spanish gin made with 12 Mediterranean influenced botancials. Many people will be familiar with Larios if they have ever had a gin and tonic when they are on holiday in Spain or the Balearic Islands. Larios Dry Gin is Spain’s biggest selling gin of choice. Larios 12 Premium Gin is a new quality gin first launched in Spain in 2011 (I think) but it has just been given a smart new makeover and launched officially in the UK in summer 2016.
Larios 12 Gin is made in a “Mediterranean” style rather than the London Dry style of the original. It is a is a very citrus dominated gin and the 12 botanicals are orange, mandarin, coriander, tangerine, lemon, angelica root, lime, orange blossom, grapefruit, nutmeg, juniper and clementine. It is distilled 5 times as compared with 3 times for the original. Eleven of botanicals are blended together in four distillations with a final fifth distillation to gently infuse the delicate orange blossom.
This is part of the new wave of New Western gins with the juniper quite far back in the citrus forward blend, so probably not the best gin if you are looking for something more traditional and juniper-y.
