Les Fiefs de Lagrange is the second wine of the famous St Julien estate Chateau Lagrange (Chateau Lagrange was classified as one of 14 third growths in the historic Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855).

Chateau Lagrange was purchased by Japanese drinks giant Suntory in 1983 with Marcel Ducasse as directeur général and winemaker. Large budgets from Suntory allowed Marcel Ducasse to invest in the remake of the vineyards and cellars and led to a successful revival of Château Lagrange. The Chateau is located entirely within the appellation of Saint-Julien, the vineyard stretches in a single block over two North-South rises of Gunzian gravelly soil. In parts large and coarse and in others finer, this gravel is combined with sand or iron-rich clay depending on the plots. At an altitude of 24 metres, the centre of the domain marks the highest point of Saint-Julien. The estate covers 157 hectares (390 acres), of which 115 hectares (284 acres) are under vine.

Les Fiefs de Lagrange, of which there are 31000 cases, sees just 20% new oak and the blend consists of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 14% Petit Verdot. The Cabernet Sauvignon contributes structure and ageing potential, the Merlot roundness and body, and the Petit Verdot fruit and complexity.
