Description

Louis Jadot Beaune Clos des Ursules 1er Cru is a walled in portion of the Beaune 1er Cru Vignes Franches. It was once owned by the convent of Saint Ursule and this was the very first vineyard bought by the Louis Henry Denis Jadot in 1826. It has remained a solely owned property of the Jadot family ever since, otherwise known as a “monopole”.

Louis Jadot is one of the largest and most famous wine producers and negociants in the Burgundy wine-growing region. The origins of the company date back to 1859 when the business was fouded by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. Over time the company has acquired plots of vines is some of the most prestigious vineyards in the region including Beaune Clos des Ursules, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Savigny Les Beaune and many more. Louis Jadot owns or directly controls 120 ha in the Côte d’Or, including over 90 individual vineyard sites, 84ha in the Beaujolais Crus and 18ha in the Mâconnais primarily in Pouilly Fuissé. Today the business is headed by Pierre-Henry Gagey, son of André Gagey, who was entrusted with the management of Louis Jadot in 1962 by Madame Jadot following the tragic death of her son.

The Beaune vineyards are the most extensive of the Côte de Beaune, between Savigny to the North, and Pommard to the South. There are no Grand Cru vineyards in this commune, but 36 Premiers Crus. The red wines from the central and southern parts are powerful, tannic, and deeply coloured while those from the northern area are generally less intensely coloured with softer fruit flavours.

The Pinot Noir grapes for the Louis Jadot Beaune Clos des Ursules 1er Cru usually undergo a fairly long fermentation (3 to 4 days). Destemmed grapes are fermented as naturally as possible in open vats in order to extract colour, tannins and aromas. It is then aged for 18 months is oak barrels.
