Description

Louis Latour Macon Lugny Les Genievres is probably one of Louis Latour’s best known (and very good value for money) white Burgundies. As the name would suggest it comes from the Maconnais wine-growing region located in the south of Burgundy, west of the Saone River. As well as Macon Lugny and other Macon village wines, the region is also home to other wine-growing appellations including Macon Prissé, St Veran, Viré-Clessé, Pouilly Vinzelles and, arguable the most famous wine of the Maconnais, Pouilly Fuissé.

The grapes for Louis Latour Macon Lugny Les Genievres are rigorously selected from the well-exposed commune of Lugny, which 30 years ago, was the only Macon village planted with Chardonnay due to its ideal Chardonnay-growing terroir. With its limestone soils and warm climate, Lugny is often considered to be one of the top vineyards in the region of Southern Burgundy.

Louis Latour Macon Lugny Les Genievres is simply an outstanding wine. The grapes undergo a traditional vinification with fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel vats. The wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation. The wine is then allowed to rest for 8 to 10 months in stainless steel vats prior to bottling.

If you were wondering, Genièvre, is the French name for Common Juniper.

Also available in 75cl bottles here and half-bottles here.
