Luis Seabra Indie Xisto is a red wine from the Douro wine-growing region of Portugal. It is a Douro field blend.
In 2012, after nearly 10 years as Dirk Niepoort’s right hand man and head oenologist working at Niepoort‘s Quinta de Napoles winery Luis Seabra decided it was time to start making wines for himself. Luis has set out to produce a range of wines which show what can be achieved from the distinct soils types and the different terroirs of the Douro Valley. The wines are produced from specific vineyards and are made with minimal intervention. The only thing added is sulphur, and then only in small amounts. The house style edges towards balance and finesse.
Luis Seabra Indie Xisto is made with grapes from vineyards in Alijo which are all over 70 years old. The wine undergoes whole bunch fermentation with natural yeast. The wine is aged for 22 months in 225 litre oak barrels. The blend is 30% Tinta Roriz, 20% Touriga Franca, 15% Tinta Amarela, 10% Rufete and 5% Tinta Barroca.
