Description

Marc Bredif Chinon is a red wine from the Loire wine-growing region and is made from 100% Cabernet Franc grapes.

Domaine Bredif was founded in 1893 and is one of the most famous wine estates in the Loire. It was acquired by Baron Patrick de Ladoucette (arguably most famous for their Baron de L Pouilly Fumé) in 1980. The Baron de Ladoucette is dedicated to maintaining exceptionally high standards throughout his portfolio. The wines are made in the state-of-the art winery within the landmark Château du Nozet and are considered to be some of the finest examples of their type. They also have vineyards in Sancerre at Chateau Lafond and in Touraine at Les Deux Tours.

Marc Bredif is famous, not only for their excellent Chinon, but also for some fantastic Vouray wines, including some very long-lived aged Vouvrays aged in their famous cellars which are among the largest and most beautiful of the appellation. The cold and humid caves, dug deep into the hillsides, offer extraordinary wine storage conditions. No oak is used in the winemaking of the Vouvray or Chinon to respect the freshness of the grapes and the terroir. The wines of Marc Bredif deliver consistent value.

The Cabernet Franc grapes for the Marc Bredif Chinon grow in the northern part of the Chinon area, in Savigny-en-Véron and wines are vinified in the state-of-the art winery within the landmark Château du Noze. The Cabernet Franc vines have an average age of 15 years. The vineyards are principally gravelly, with varying proportions of clay, and have mostly north / south sun exposure.

After harvest the grapes for Marc Bredif Chinon are destemmed. Fermentation lasts 15 days on skins with pumping-over twice a day. There is a gentle pressing and final fermentation of clear juice. The wines is then transferred to vats for malolactic fermentation prior to maturation in stainless-steel tanks with regular racking.

Tasting Notes

Marc Bredif Chinon is intense, refined and fruity on the nose. Nuances of cherry, strawberry and spicy notes. In the mouth, a subtle attack; fruity, light structure. Fresh and aromatic finish.

Food Pairing

Chinon wine pairs well with grilled meats, think lamb chops, porck chops,  roasted vegetables and rich casseroles or stews.

For the cheeseboard, try with a mature Gouda.
