Mezan Dominican Republic 2010 Vintage Rum is part of the Mezan range of single distillery bottlings of rum.
The idea behind the Mezan range of rums is to bring to the consumer the story of the diversity of rum amongst the Caribbean Islands – styles and methods of production, and therefore the rums vary widely. Mezan rums are also bottled as natural as possible – after the casks have been selected – they are not chill-filtered, nor is there any colour, sugar or other flavourings added.
Mezan Dominican Republic 2010 Vintage Rum is produced by a distillery which produces its rums from sugarcane juice gathered from freshly crushed Dominican cane, grown in the provinces of San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, La Altagracia and El Seibo. The juice is fermented with the company’s own yeasts, developed over more than fifty years of production, and then distilled in their own 5-column continuous still. This light rum has a relatively low ester content which develops well when aged.
Mezan Dominican Republic 2010 Vintage Rum is aged in ex Bourbon casks. After the casks have been selected the rum is bottled non chill-filtered and no colouring, caramel, sugar or other flavourings are added. Pure, untouched rum. Distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2020 as a 10 year old Rum at 46% ABV. 3 years tropical ageing and 7 years ageing in Europe.
Mezan Dominican Republic 2010 Vintage Rum has perfumed notes of dried apricots, oranges, raisins and light caramel with a sense of freshly made biscuit. A rich oaky frame surrounds a softer body, some light molasses sugar, warming exotic spices and a little honey for a round and sweet finish.
Best served neat.
