Description
Mezan Guyana Diamond PM 2005 Vintage Rum is part of the Mezan range of single cask bottlings. These are all single cask (apart from the Jamaica XO, which is an aged blend) and single vintage bottlings. The idea behind the range is to bring to the consumer the story of the diversity of rum amongst the Caribbean Islands styles and methods of production, and therefore the rums vary widely. Mezan rums are also as natural as possible after the casks have been selected they are not chill-filtered, nor is there any colour, sugar or other flavourings added. Mezan Guyana Diamond PM 2005 Vintage Rum is a single vintage rum distilled at the famous Diamond Distillery (now known as Demerara Distillers Limited ) in Georgetown, Guyana. The distillery produces Demerara Rums (most of which are bottled under the El Dorado Rum brand) made using 100% Demerara sugar molasses from a local factory. All Demerara Rum comes from Guyana. After the molasses is fermented it is then distilled in the Port Morant still (hence PM in the name), a double wooden pot still with a copper neck from the old Port Morant estate. As the rum industry changed and companies amalgamated through the years the stills from the old estates moved to the Diamond Distillery where one can now find the stills from the Enmore and Uitvlught estates (actually the Port Morant still, which was moved to Uitvlught), which are still named after the estates, as are the rums they produce. Quite a large portion of Demerara rum made at Diamond Distillery goes into Pusser’s Rum. The wooden sided stills add a unique set of flavours and aromas to rums distilled in them.
