Mezan Nicaragua 2013 Vintage Rum is part of the Mezan range of single distillery bottlings of rum. Mezan are an independent rum bottler who specialize in producing single-distillery, vintage, and unblended rums which capture the unique characteristics of each distillery and the terroir of the region. 

Mezan follows an “unaltered” philosophy, which means they aim to preserve the true character of the rums they bottle. They believe in minimal intervention during the production process, allowing the rum to speak for itself. Their rums are also bottled as natural as possible: after the casks have been selected, they are not chill-filtered, nor is there any colour, sugar or other flavourings added. Mezan Rum carefully selects barrels from individual distilleries across the Caribbean, including Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad, and Panama. They focus on distilleries with a rich heritage and reputation for producing exceptional rums, some founded centuries ago, others no longer in operation.

The Mezan Nicaragua 2013 Vintage Rum is first bottling of Nicaraguan Rum by Mezan. The distillery, with a rich history dating back to 1890, is located in Chichigalpa, a city set at the foot of the famed San Cristobal Volcano. It is the product of an independent distillery, run eco-responsibly for 5 generations by the same family, which commands its entire production process, from the cutting of the cane to the bottling of the rum. The complexity, depth and luscious suavity of its rums are the result of their multi column  distillation and ageing in former bourbon barrels, as well as the microclimate and volcanic soils from which they emerged.

Mezan Nicaragua 2013 Vintage Rum was bottled in 2023 as a 10 year old rum. It was matured in ex-Bourban barrels, and spent 4 years tropical ageing followed by 6 years European ageing. Bottled at 46% ABV.

Only a few casks of each Mezan bottling are bottled each time making these very limited bottlings.
