Mezan Panama 2010 Vintage Rum is part of the Mezan range of single distillery bottlings of rum.
The idea behind the Mezan range of rums is to bring to the consumer the story of the diversity of rum amongst the Caribbean Islands – styles and methods of production, and therefore the rums vary widely. Mezan rums are also bottled as natural as possible – after the casks have been selected – they are not chill-filtered, nor is there any colour, sugar or other flavourings added.
Mezan Panama 2010 Vintage Rum comes from a distillery in Panama which cultivates its own sugar cane for the production of aguardiente and rum. The rums are distinctive soft molasses based rums distilled in modern multi-column stills. As well as cultivating their own sugar cane the distillery also cultivates its own historic yeast cultures which adds character and individuality to the production of their rums.
Mezan Panama 2010 Vintage Rum has been aged twice in separate sets of white oak American Bourbon casks, to give added structure to the spirit. After the casks have been selected the rum is bottled non chill-filtered and no colouring, caramel, sugar or other flavourings are added. Pure, untouched rum. Distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2020 as a 10 year old Rum at 46% ABV. 3 years tropical ageing and 7 years ageing in Europe.
Mezan Panama 2010 Vintage Rum has orange notes with a little cinnamon and coconut. Light estery tones with some dried fig and a back note of fresh sap wood. Well structured spiced oak with nutmeg and tropical fruit. Hints of ginger and a delightful zingy sweetness on the finish.
Best served neat.
