Miguel Torres Manso de Velasco Cabernet Sauvignon sits alongside their Conde de Superunda as Miguel Torres Chile’s two top red wines. Miguel Torres acquired a small winery in Curicó, in the Chilean central valley, in 1979. It was the first foreign company to back Chilean vineyard production. After almost thirty years, those original 100 hectares have turned into 445 hectares of vineyards owned by the company itself. As of 2010 Miguel Torres Chile is directed by Miguel Torres Maczassek, a fifth generation Torres winemaker who moved to Chile with his family in order to maintain the tradition and passion for winemaking that the Torres family has demonstrated for over a hundred years.

Miguel Torres Manso de Velasco pays homage to the former Governor of Chile, Manso de Velasco. A brave man and an entrepreneur, he was famous for his strength on the battlefield, and was the founder of Curicó, where these vineyards are located. Miguel Torres was one of the first foreign investors to buy land in Chile attracted by the special climatic conditions of this region. In 1979 Torres purchased one hundred hectares of vineyard and a winery in the Curicó area. With him, Miguel Torres brought his family’s long tradition of wine-making and over one hundred years of company history.

Miguel Torres Manso de Velasco Cabernet Sauvignon is a single vineyard wine produced from old vines (or vieja vinos) over 115 years old. The Manso de Velasco vineyard was acquired in 1984 and it is devoted almost exclusively to the 3.6 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon vines that produces this intense and deeply-pigmented wine. It is an extraordinary wine characterised by its deep and intense colour derived from century-old vines. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French Nevers oak cask for 18 months, 70% of which are new oak.
