Description

Mossburn Single Cask Linkwood 2007 14 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Whisky is a third party bottling of Speyside Single Malt Whisky. The first ever series of Mossburn Single Cask bottlings was released in Spring 2022 and comprised bottlings of Linkwood, Jura, Inchgower, Blair Atholl and Springbank.

Mossburn Distillers & Blenders is a brand new Scotch whisky project owned by Marussia Beverage which is part of the empire controlled by Swedish billionaire Frederik Paulsen. The company is headquartered at Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders on the site of the former Jedforest Hotel. Their new distillery, called Reivers Distillery, will be one of the first new distilleries to be built in the Borders for over 150 years. Mossburn have also established Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye, which opened in 2017 (the second distillery on Skye after Highland Park). The parent company also own the Kaikyo Distillery in Japan which produces Hatozaki whiskies. Not content with this, they have also created the peaty Caisteal Chamuis whisky range. The first Mossburn bottlings were released in 2017.

Building a whisky distillery and waiting for whisky to come online (the spirit has to be aged for at least 3 years before it can even be called whisky) is a long term project. So, in the meantime, Mossburn have started the ball rolling by bottling a small collection of ever-changing single malt whiskies and two permanent blended malts, an Island and Speyside, with bespoke cask bills. There are also some very limited occasional single cask bottlings.

The Linkwood Distillery is located in Elgin in Speyside and their water source if from springs need Milbuies Loch. The distillery was founded by Peter Brown in 1821. It would later become part of Linkwood-Glenivet which was bought out by, Scottish Malt Distillers, in turn bought by United Distillers (which would later become Diageo) in the early 1990s.

The Mossburn Single Cask Linkwood 2007 14 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Whisky bottling consists of just 243 bottles. Distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2021 and finished in Cognac cask. Bottled at a cask strength of 56.5% ABV with no added colouring or chill filtration.

Tasting Notes

Light citrussy floral nose with some sweet oak in the background. A touch more vanilla and spice evolves when a little water is added. Initially a light malty character with some fire from the spirit is at the fore, this is followed by some rather more complex dried fruit and additional spice, finishes with a little more from the oak.
