Mossburn Speyside 12 Year Old Blended Malt Foursquare Rum Cask is the first release in the Mossburn Cask Collaboration series made in conjunction with the Foursquare Rum Distillery, located in St Phillips, Barbados.
This is the first of the Mossburn’s “Cask Collaboration Series” which will see Mossburn blend and finish a different Scotch each year in special casks sourced from a distinctinve world-renowned distillery across different spirit categories.
Mossburn Distillers & Blenders is a new Scotch whisky project owned by Marussia Beverages. The company is headquartered at Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders on the site of the former Jedforest Hotel and is one of the first new distilleries to be built in the Borders for over 180 years. The first phase of development is construction of the Jedhart Distillery, a small distillery featuring three copper stills, five 5,000 square meter warehouse for pallets and casks and a small café. The second phase is construction of the Mossburn Distillery and visitor centre, a large production facility with the capacity to produce 25 million litres of spirit per year. There will also be a larger café and restaurant. Not content with these distilleries, the parent company of Mossburn is also the owner of Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye, the second distillery established there after Highland Park. Whislt all these projects come to fruition, Mossburn have been releasing a number of Vintage Cask and Single Cask bottlings as well as Caisteal Chamuis.
Mossburn Speyside 12 Year Old Blended Malt Foursquare Rum Cask combines award winning 12 year old Mossburn Speyside Blended Malt with rum cask character from the celebrated Foursquare Rum distillery; it is finished for a minimum of 1 year in mature Barbados Rum casks.
Mossburn’s master blender, Neil MacLeod Matheson, selected a number of mature Single Malt Whiskies from diferent Speyside distilleries that demonstrate typical Speyside whisky character woth flavours of honey, spice and delicate floral nuttiness, blended to perfectly match the rich complexity and Muscovado notes that only a rum finish can bring.
Limited Edition of only 1200 bottles for the UK.
Bottled without colouring and non-chill filtered at a batch strength of 57.7% ABV.
Nose: Elegant rum notes intertwining with evident malty cereal notes and a subtle vanilla / banana undertone.
Palate: Full-bodied malty notes with comlexity arriving in the form of toffee, vanilla, apples and balanced with a beguiling rum and raisin note.
Finish: Well balanced and homogenous; with a long finish of raisins, vanilla and complex sweet spice.
