Nederburg Baronne is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. This wine is also imported to the UK as Nederburg Cabernet Sauvignon / Shiraz but we found that lots of people from South Africa or who had holidayed there were looking for Nederberg Baronne, so we like to supply this under the Baronne label. Nederburg’s core super-premium wines are accommodated in The Winemasters Reserve ensemble, named to honour the long-established tradition of winemaking excellence. Indeed, Nederburg remains one of South Africa’s most awarded wineries and their wines display a hallmark combination of fruit and finesse.
The grapes for the Nederburg Baronne are sourced from vineyards in the Paarl and Stellenbosch wine-growing areas. The vineyards were all planted between 1990 and 1998 on soils originating from decomposed granite located on south-westerly to westerly facing slopes, situated some 300 m above sea level. After hand-harvesting, fermentation and completion of malolactic fermentation the wine was matured in oak for a period of 12 months.
Nederburg Baronne is a smooth, suave and self-assured wine and it is one of South Africa’s most popular wines. Winemaker is Samuel Viljoen, who works under the newly appointed (2015) cellarmaster Andrea Freeborough, and makes all of Nederburg’s red wines.
