Nederburg Winemasters Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from vineyards in and around the Western Cape.

Nederburg has a long wine-making history stretching back over 200 years to 1791 when Phillipus Bernadus Wolvaart was granted ownership of 49 hectares of land, in what is now Paarl, by the Dutch East India Company. He called his new property Nederburgh and immediately set about clearing land and planting vines. By 1808 he has planted over 63,000 vines laying the foundations for what was to become the wine company we know today. Nederburg has changed hands many times through the years but is now owned by the large South African wine and spirit company, Distell. Multi-talented cellar-master Andrea Freeborough has lead the the team of highly-skilled Nederburg winemakers who work closely under her direction since 2015.

The vineyards that produce the grapes the Nederburg Winemasters Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon were planted between 1990 and 1998, the vines are grown in decomposed granite on a southerly slope, situated some 50m to 150m above sea level. The grapes are grown under dryland conditions while some of the vines received supplementary irrigation from either a micro-irrigation, drip or overhead sprinkler system. Grapes are harvested by hand and machine. The fruit was crushed and fermented on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 25ºC to 28ºC for two weeks. Upon completion of malolactic fermentation the wine was matured in wood for a period of approximately 16 to 18 months.

Working directly under the watchful eye of cellar master, Andrea Freeborough, the wine maker is Samuel Viljoen.

Tasting Notes

Nederburg Winemasters Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep ruby in colour. The nose has aromas of blackcurrants and cherries with nuances of vanilla in the background. A full-bodied wine with ripe fruit, cherry and delicate oak spice flavours, firm tannins and a lingering aftertaste.

Food Pairing

Nederburg Winemasters Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is excellent served with robust dishes such as patés and steaks, as well as full-bodied dishes such as beef stroganoff, winter stews, roasts and mature cheeses.
