Description
Niepoort Late Bottled Vintage Port (LBV) is Port wine from a single vintage that is then aged for four to six years in old oak casks. Niepoort LBV is a superb, afoordable alternative to vintage Port. The extra barrel ageing makes the LBV much more approachable in its youth whilst retaining excellent concentration of fruit.
Winemaker Dirk Niepoort calls this the “Little Brother” of his Vintage Port, as the origins of the grapes and vinification methods are nearly identical. The wine is made from grapes sourced from low-yielding old vines in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro valley. The grapes are hand-picked from vineyards at Vinha da Pisca, Vale do Pinhao and Ferrao. The grapes were trodden in lagare, the Port spends a few cool winter months ageing in the Douro before the Port is transported to Niepoort’s Cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia where it finishes its maturation in large wooden vats.
The grapes are hand picked from vineyards in Vinha da Pisca, Vale do Pinhão and Ferrão with an average age of more than 70 years old. They are fermented, with foot-treading, in traditional stone lagares. Niepoort Late Bottled Vintage Port is traditionally bottled 4 years after the harvest (to retain plenty of freshness in the wine) and it is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cao, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousao, Tinta Roriz and other Douro grape varieties.
This LBV is bottled unfiltered and may require decanting.
Also available in 75cl bottles.
