Plan B Shiraz is a red wine made in the Frankland River region of Western Australia. Plan B Wines are Terry Chellapah, Garry Gosatti and Bill Crappsley. All three men have been in the wine industry for a number of years. Terry and Garry met in 1989 and worked together in various places, including Arlewood Estate on Western Australia’s Leeuwin Peninsula. Their paths crossed with vineyard owner, and former winemaker at Rosabrook, Bill Crappsley in 2001. All three bemoaned the fact that all of the fun seemed to have gone out of the wine industry and Terry reckoned it still could be, after an expensive dinner and a few glasses of wine Plan B Wines was created. Fruit for the Plan B Shiraz is sourced from from separate vineyard patches picked at night and fermented between 24-26C for 12 days with extended post-fermentation maceration to optimise flavour, colour and tannin profiles. Individual batches are aged in barrel for 14 months. A final rustic 10% of Tempranillo from Bill’s Calgardup vineyard in Margaret River rounds it off beautifully.
