Prunotto Barbaresco DOCG is a red wine from the Piedmont wine-growing region, Barbaresco, along with Barolo, is considered to be the absolute classic wine of the region.

Prunotto can trace its history back to 1904 when the council of the community of Serralunga, in the presence of notary Giacomo Oddero and young witness Alfred Prunotto, formed the co-operative winery then known as “Ai Vini delle Langhe” (“Of the wines of Langhe”). Alfredo would eventually take over the co-operative and it was named after him. In 1989, the Antinori family began its collaboration with the Prunotto Company, at first handling distribution and later, in 1994, when the then owners, the Colla brothers retired, getting directly involved in the production process, maintaining the excellent level of quality which previous owner Alfredo Prunotto had always insisted upon. Recently a great deal of money has been spent upgrading the winery, cellars and technology as well as acquiring new vineyards.

Prunotto Barbaresco DOCG is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes sourced from vineyards located in Barbaresco and Treiso. The soils here are from the Tortonian and Messinian period  and are known as “Sant’Agata fossil marls” which are rich in elements such as manganese, zinc, and boron. After harvest, the grapes are de-stemmed and pressed and fermented with skin contact for approximately 10 days. Malolactic fermentation was completed before the end of winter. The wine was aged in oak barrels of varying capacities. Before release, the wine was aged for a further ten months in the bottle.

Tasting Notes

Prunotto Barbaresco has an intense garnet red colour. The nose is complex with aromas of red fruit and spicy notes. The palate is full and velvety with a persistent finish.
