Quinta do Vale Meao 2015 Vintage Port, from Quinta do Vale Meao “We declared Quinta do Vale Meão Vintage Port 2015 which shows a deep color, with a powerful attack, full of intensity where one can easily find fresh fruity notes. It is very well structured so we believe it will age beautifully“.
Quinta do Vale Meao is one of the great wine estates of the Douro, if not the world. Bought and established by that legendary lady of Port, Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, in the early 19th Century, it has been the stage for many pioneering feats of winemaking and viticulture in the Douro. Currently though it is still in family hands, with descendant Francisco Xavier Olazabal (Vito), his winemaker son Francisco and daughter Luísa all devote to the cause. This humorous and relaxed team has, since they started making wine at the quinta in 1999, pushed the boundaries of excellence in Douro reds beyond what was imaginable. They are relative newcomers to vintage Port production but have been producing some superb wines.
Quinta do Vale Meao 2015 Vintage Port is a blend of Touriga Franca (45 %) with other grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Amarela and Sousão. After being crushed, the grapes are cooled down and periodically trodden by foot in granite “lagares” until the sugar contents of the must reaches the required level. This process lasts in average for three days. The must is then racked to the storage vats and wine brandy is added to stop fermentation.
