Description

Quinta do Vallado Tinto Reserva Field Blend is the top red wine blend from this fantastic Douro wine estate. Quinta do Vallado is located in the heart of the Douro region, a few miles from the historical centre of Régua. Their vineyards spread along both banks of the Corgo River where it meets the Douro. The estate can trace its origins back to 1716 when the Quinta belonged to the legendary D.Antónia Adelaide Ferreira and has remained in the family ever since. It is now in its sixth generation. Part of the 38 ha vineyards are still young, aged between 10 and 15 years old. But the best plots, about 26 ha with more than 70 years old, largely compensates for it. 70% of the grapes for the Quinta do Vallado Tinto Reserva Field Blend are sourced from the old vines and the rest for the younger vines.

Quinta do Vallado Reserva Tinto is a blend of Tinto Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Sousao. The grapes from the old vineyards are vinified in stainless steel remontage vats. The other grapes are vinified separately and the 3% Sousao is foot-trodden and fermented in old stone lagares. After alcoholic fermention the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation prior to ageing for 18 months in new French oak barriques (60% new barrels and 40% used barrels). Winemakers are Francisco Olazabal & Francisco Ferreira.
