Description

Rittenhouse Straight Rye Whiskey is made by Heaven Hill Distilleries in Bardstown, Kentucky by master distillers Craig and Parker Beam produce. Heaven Hill was founded shortly after the repeal of Prohibition in 933 and, since then, Heaven Hill became the largest independent, family-owned producer and marketer of distilled spirits in the United States. This whiskey is made at their very modern Bernheim distillery. Rye whisky has to made from a mash bill containing at least 51% rye (the other ingredients of the mash are usually corn and malted barley) and Rittenhouse is made using Heaven Hill’s own family yeast strain—now in its fifth generation. Rittenhouse Straight Rye Whiskey is made in the Pennsylvania or “Monongahela” style which means it has a much higher rye content than most. Rye Whiskey was very common in the Northeastern states of the USA including Pennsylvania but fell out of favour. It was Heaven Hill and only a few other distilleries that kept this style of rye whiskey aliver. Of course, today, there is a bit of a resurgence in rye whiskies. As well as confirming to the other rye whisky laws, a Straight Rye Whiskey must be aged for at least 2 years. However, if it is over 4 years old it does not have to, so Rittenhouse Straight Rye Whiskey is at least 4 years old. It must also contain no added colouring, flavouring or other spirits.
