Roughstock Montana Single Cask Black Label Pure Malt Whiskey is the single barrel version of Roughstock’s Pure Malt Whiskey. It is made at the Roughstock Distillery located at the base of the Bridger Mountain Range in beautiful southwestern Montana. Roughstock is made from Montana-grown malted barley, water from fed by mountain glaciers, yeast, time in a toasted and charred virgin oak barrel, and treated to a fair dose of Johnny Cash when time allows! Roughstock has carefully selected and handcrafted barrels coupled with the erratic local weather patterns, which allows them to fully mature a whiskey in a very short time. This is in no way a shortcut on quality or maturity, simply the way in which the whiskey matures in the unique mountain environment. Each bottle of Roughstock is hand numbered with the batch number, bottle number, bottling date, and the individual who took the time and care to put the whiskey in that bottle. Roughstock is a small batch distillery, producing uniquely flavoured whiskeys in each particular batch. Made in exactly the same way as Roughstock’s Pure Malt Whiskey but, since every barrel has its own influence on the final flavour of the whiskey, some barrels stand out head and shoulders above the rest. Roughstock’s distiller hand selects individual barrels based on aroma and flavor. He is looking for deep, rich, complex aromas and taste. When those barrels are found, they are put aside for our Black Label. Each cask is emptied and bottled as one seamless batch, also known as a “single barrel” bottling. The whiskey is untouched: uncut, unfiltered, and unadulterated in any way and at actual cask strength. The result? A very deep and rich whiskey dominated by the tireless work of our fine American white oak. Released in limited quantities and only when the quality of the whiskey is deemed worthy of the Black Label, it is sure to take your breath away!
