Description

Louis Jadot Savigny Les Beaunes 1er Cru La Dominode is a red Burgundy made from vineyards in the Cote de Beaune wine-growing region. The commune of Savigny Les Beaune is located above between Aloxe Corton and Pernand Vergelesses, in the north of the Côte de Beaune.

Louis Jadot is one of the largest and most famous wine producers and negociants in the Burgundy wine-growing region. The origins of the company date back to 1859 when the business was fouded by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. Over time the company has acquired plots of vines is some of the most prestigious vineyards in the region including Beaune Clos des Ursules, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and many more. Louis Jadot owns or directly controls 120 ha in the Côte d’Or, including over 90 individual vineyard sites, 84ha in the Beaujolais Crus and 18ha in the Mâconnais primarily in Pouilly Fuissé (they own the fantastic Domaine Ferret). Today the business is headed by Pierre-Henry Gagey, son of André Gagey, who was entrusted with the management of Louis Jadot in 1962 by Madame Jadot following the tragic death of her son

Savigny produces exclusively almost red wines (90%) under the village and premier cru appellations. La Dominode vineyard is easterly exposed and lies to the far south end of the commune bordering the Beaune vineyards. It is situated within the Hautes Jarrons 1er Cru vineyard. La Dominode has south, south-east, east and north-east exposure and is situated between 220 and 360m. The chalk soil is gravely or stony, light and infertile. The deep and stony soils (fallen from the brow of the hill) are well suited to Pinot Noir.

The grapes for Louis Jadot Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode are harvested by hand and are then sorted by hand. The grapes are then destemmed and are macerated in stainless steel or oak vats for 3 to 4 weeks. During alcoholic fermentation the grapes are given twice daily pump overs. The wine is then matured for around 18 months in French oak barrels from Jadot’s own cooperage, a third of which are new.

This wine is suitable for vegan and vegetarians.

Tasting Notes

Louis Jadot Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode is a wine with quite an intense colour. Solidly-built, lacking neither character nor strength, it is a very fruity and silky wine in the mouth with a potential for ageing.
