Seresin Chardonnay Reserve quite simply one of the best New Zealand Chardonnays.
The name Seresin might be familiar to you if you have an interest in the film world. Michael Seresin is a world-famous cinematographer most famous for his collaborations with Alan Parker on such films as Bugsy Malone and Midnight Express. My two personal favourite films that he worked on would probably have to be Angel Heart and Birdy. He founded Seresin Estate in 1992 and, with their first vintage in 1996, they are celebrating 20 vintages in 2016.
The Chardonnay grapes for this wine are certified organic (by Demeter) and come from the estate’s two biodynamic vineyards. Most of the grapes come from the rich, clay-based slopes of Seresin’s Raupo Creek vineyard in the Omaka valley. The balance comes from their Noa vineyard which has Waimakiriri soils of alluvial origin. The grapes are hand sorted and whole bunch pressed straight to barrel. Each parcel is naturally fermented in French oak (26% new). After 11 months the wine is transferred to puncheons for another three months prior to bottling.
Seresin Chardonnay Reserve is certified organic and biodynamically grown. It is also suitable for vegetarians and vegans. No dairy products or eggs are used during production.
