Seresin Late Harvest Riesling is a dessert wine from New Zealand. It is only made in vintages where the conditions are right to allow the fruit to be late harvested.
The name Seresin might be familiar to you if you have an interest in the film world. Michael Seresin is a world-famous cinematographer most famous for his collaborations with Alan Parker on such films as Bugsy Malone and Midnight Express. My two personal favourite films that he worked on would probably have to be Angel Heart and Birdy. He founded Seresin Estate in 1992 and, with their first vintage in 1996, they are celebrating 20 vintages in 2016.
Seresin Late Harvest Riesling is only made in certain vintages when the conditions are perfect for Seresin to leave some Riesling on the vines out in their Raupo vineyard. The Raupo vineyard has a gentle north-west facing aspect settled in the centre of the Omaka Valley. The grapes are hand-picked, hand-sorted and crushed traditionally by foot, before being left to steep over night. Following this, the bunches were slowly and gently pressed. The resulting juice was then allowed to ferment with wild yeast, a process that lasts for many months.
This wine will improve over the next ten years, becoming richer and more honeyed as it ages.
Seresin Late Harvest Riesling is certified organic and biodynamically grown. It is also suitable for vegetarians and vegans. No dairy products or eggs are used during production.
