Description
Summer Garden Gin is a small batch, micro-distilled Hampshire gin made at the Winchester Distillery. It is a limited edition gin which owner and distiller Paul Bowler only makes once an year. He also makes a richer limited edition gin for the winter months called Winter Wassail Gin and spring gin like “spring in a bottle” called Spring Meadow Gin. Winchester Distillery is most famous for the Twisted Nose Watercress Gin.
All of the Hampshire gins at Winchester Distillery are distilled in a traditional copper pot still, a descendent of the alembic still, used to make batches of spirits, unlike the continuous distillation of large, more commercial column stills. Pot stills produce a very fine grade of spirit. The botanicals are gently crushed, mixed and macerated pure, neutral spirit to release the oils that give the gin its characteristic flavours. The spirit and macerated botanicals are then re-distilled in the pot still and only the heart of the distillate is used for the final bottling.
Summer Garden Gin is a dry gin designed for summer drinking and is rich in juniper with summer fruits and fresh herbs. As well as the juniper, the other botanicals include freshly picked summer berries along with botanicals such as juniper, rose petals, lemon verbena and peppermint, it is the quintessential taste of an English summer garden.
Made in small batches of only 250 bottles.
Edit: the 2019 Batch is “rich in juniper, New Forest strawberries & blueberries, rose petals, lime flower, meadowsweet, lemon thyme and peppermint, all distilled slowly in our traditional pot still.”
