Susana Balbo Signature Series Malbec is made from grapes sourced from the Valle de Uco in the Mendoza wine-growing region of Argentina. This wine is made at Balbo’s Dominio del Plata winery located in the heart of Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. After many years working for other wineries (including Michael Torina and Catena) Susana was able to realise here dream of owning her own winery when construction began on the Dominio del Plata winery in 1999. After having worked in the wine industray for over 30 years, Susana Balbo is a true icon of Argentinian wine – the first lady to become a winemaker in Argentina, she was also president of Wines of Argentina (WOFA) three times (2006-2008, 2008-2010 and 2014-2016) and assumed the position of Vice President from 2010-2012! Today both her son, Joseph, a winemaker who studied at the University of UC Davis (California) and daughter Ana have joined the family business. The winery, with its modern technology and equipment, in combination with “precision” viticulture and sustainable agriculture produces very high quality wines. The grapes for the Susana Balbo Signature Series Malbec (a blend of 92% Malbec and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon) are sourced from Balbo’s vineyards in Alto Agrelo (Luján de Cuyo) Altamira (Uco Valley). The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and lightly crushed. The fermeting wine undergoes pumping over and delestage three times a day and is macerated for 35 days. Finally the wine is aged for 13 months (80% new French oak barrels and 20% second use French oak barrels).
