Susana Esteban Aventura Tinto is a Vinho Regional Alentejano made by the talented winemaker Susana Esteban. Susana was born in Galicia, Spain but made her name working as a winemaker in the Douro Valley. She started wine making at Quinta do Cotto in 1999 before moving on to Quinta do Crasto in 2002. Susana was already consulting as a winemaker in Alentejo when she relocated to Alentejo in 2009 to make a range of hand-crafted wines made in the traditional manner but with a modern style.
Susana has vineyards located around Evora (mainly low yielding Alicante Bouschet) and Portalegre (mixed plantings) which are planted on mainly schistous soils. In 2012 she acquired more vineyards in the north and centre of Alentejo which are where the grapes for the Aventura Tinto come from. The grapes for the Aventura Tinto are 40% Aragones (the southern Portuguese name for Tempranillo), 40% Touriga Nacional and 20% other varieties from Portalegre fermented in small, temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is unoaked which allows the pure expression of fresh, clean fruit characters to shine.
In 2012 Susana was awarded “Best winemaker of the Year” by the Revista dos Vinhos, the first female winemaker to win this honour.
