Taylors 1966 Very Old Single Harvest Port is the third release in a series of limited edition Tawny Ports released by Taylors when they are 50 years old. Taylors Port have one of the largest holdings of very old cask aged Ports in the Douro. These old Ports are single vintage Ports aged in seasoned oak casks, i.e they are single vintage Tawny Ports. Taylors first started releasing some of these older Tawny Port when they were 50 years old in 2014 with the 1964 Vintage. 2016 sees the release of Taylors 1966 Very Old Single Harvest Port which will obviously make a very nice 50th birthday or 50th anniversary present in 2016. Taylors 1966 Very Old Single Harvest Port is made from grapes harvested in 1966 and the Port has spent many years quietly aging away in oak cask in Taylors cellars. This long period of oak ageing gives this Port its characteristic amber / tawny colour, smooth palate, complex, mellow flavours and rich aromas of dried fruits, nutty character and caramel nuances. As this will only have been bottled recently (most likely in late 2015 / early 2016) the Port will not need decanting now (it will have been filtered at bottling) and is ready to drink now. The bottle is presented in the classic frosted Taylors Port bottle, in a high quality beech wood box and there are only a very limited number of bottles available worldwide. Taylor’s Managing Director, Adrian Bridge, comments “A 50th birthday or anniversary is a landmark occasion. Taylor’s Single Harvest Ports offer a unique opportunity to celebrate with an extraordinary 50 year old wine in perfect condition.
