Description

Titchfield Vineyard Fume is a barrel-fermented English white wine from Hampshire. As well as the Fume, they also make a Bacchus and Pinot Noir.

Titchfield Vineyard is a small English vineyard located near the village of Titchfield situated near the Solent between Portsmouth and Southampton. It has been owned by Colin and Nicky Baker for a number of years and they produce a range of wines including red, white, sparkling and, when conditions allow, a dessert wine. Their first wines were released in 1996.

Titchfield Vineyard has a very special location quite close to the Solent and the maritime climate has quite an influence on the local conditions. The grape varieties grown there were chosen for their ability to ripen with good sugar levels in the Southern English climate. All Titchfield Vineyard wines are produced from grapes grown, vinified and bottled on the estate. Winemaker is William Biddulph who previously made wine at Wickham Vineyard (after studying Winemaking and Grape Growing in New Zealand).

Titchfield Vineyard Fume is the vineyard’s oaked style of white wine. It is made from a blend of Bacchus and Reichensteiner which undergo a cool fermentation with selected yeasts followed by a period of 6 months ageing in barrel with lees stirring to enhance complexity and texture.

Please note, these wines are only made in small quantities. If Titchfield Vineyard Fume is out of stock check here to see if the Titchfield Bacchus is available.

Tasting Notes

From Titchfield Vineyard: “Straw to light golden in colour. The nose demonsrates aromas of pear drops, elderflower and vanilla with a floral hint. The palate is round and ripe with a creamy medium body, subtle flavours of toffee and nettles with mouth filling length and a crisp finish.”

Serve With

Drink with salads, roast chicken, lighter creamy pasta dishes or some grilled trout (preferably from Hampshire).
