Trapiche Gran Medalla Malbec was created to celebrate Trapiche’s 125th Anniversary; the winery was founded in 1883. Trapiche is located in Mendoza, at the foothills of the Andes. Over the last 125 years Trapiche’s reputation has grown because of their pioneering and innovative spirit and their dedication to quality and diversity to produce the highest quality wines. They represent the richness of diversity in Argentina, with over a 1000 ha of their own vineyards and taking advantage of the different soils and climates, Trapiche have specialised in obtaining the best fruit from their terroir.
Trapiche Gran Medalla Malbec is 100% Malbec from Trapiche’s Finca Los Arboles vineyard in the Uco Valley, Mendoza. This Malbec is the result of a careful selection of parcels 4, 5 and 6, where diverse masal selections of Malbec from Finca Los Arboles, located at 1.250 meters above sea level, were implanted. The properties of the soils, the sun exposure and the microclimate of this estate allow the Malbec to slowly develop full maturity to reach the maximum expression of fruit, tannins and pigments. Grapes are grown on loam and sandy loam soils, hand harvested with bunch selection, destemming and berry selection. The wine undergoes fermentation and maceration in small concrete vats where there is natural malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 18 months in new oak barrels.
