Tyrrells Old Winery Shiraz is named after Tyrrells Wines historic old winery which is located in the Hunter Valley. It was built in 1863 and Tyrrells made their first vintage of wine there in 1864. Tyrrells wines was founded by Edward Tyrrell in 1858 and, since then, it has grown into one of the largest and most prestigious wine companies in Australia.
From a base of 60 acres of vines in the Hunter Valley, the estate has grown to 900 acres of premium vineyards in Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale in South Australia and the Heathcote region in Victoria. Today Tyrrells wines is in the hands of 4th generation owner Bruce Tyrrell and his family who continue to produce top quality wines and build on the success if their forebears.
Tyrrells Old Winery Shiraz is made from fruit sourced primarily from the parcels of vines in Heathcote and the McLaren Valley. Vinification is in a combination of open top fermenters and stainless steel potter tanks. The wine is aged for between 12 and 15 months in a mixture of French and American oak barrels.
