Urbina Tempranillo Rioja DOC is an unoaked and fruity Rioja, the purest expression of Tempranillo fruit without any oak influence. Bodegas Benito Urbina is a family-owned, single estate winery with 75 Ha. of vineyards. Four generations have been dedicated to the cultivation of their vineyards and the production quality wines. Urbina grows grapes in Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, on the north-western edge of D.O.C. Rioja ( these produce wines with a great capacity for ageing, excellent for Gran Reservas) and in the the vineyards of Uruñuela, which are situated in the heart of the Denomination (these produce wines of great consistency and body). Bodegas Benito Urbina produces 400.000 bottles of Red Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva and 50.000 bottles of White and Rosé from their own vineyards. Their grapes are cultivated using traditional techniques, harvesting is by hand and the use of weed killers and pesticides is avoided.
Urbina Tempranillo Rioja DOC is 100% Tempranillo. After harvest the grapes undergo maceration / fermention for 15 days at 25C followed by malolactic fermentation at for 10 days at 20C. Although the Rioja is unoaked it is clearly in the “Urbina style”, it is a lighter, fruity style of wine with a certain elegance.
