Wakefield St Andrews Riesling is a multi award-winning single vineyard white wine made from 100% Riesling sourced from the Clare Valley wine-growing region of Australia. It is named after the Taylor Family’s historic property which was first established by Scottish immigrants in 1892. The St Andrews range wines were first released in 1999 and a true reflection of the Clare Valley terroir.

Wakefield Wines are located in the heart of the Clare Valley and was founded by wine merchant Bill Taylor Senior in 1969 with the purchase of 178 hectares of vineyards near the Wakefield River in Auburn. Wakefield Wines are still known under their original name of Taylor’s Wines in Australia. Bill Taylor carefully chose the site for its red brown loam over limestone soils ( this is known as “terra rossa”) and cool climate of the Clare valley. The same year, 1969, the first Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted. Today Wakefield Estate is one of the most highly esteemed cool climate producers in Australia.

After the grapes are harvested, the juice is gently extracted using whole berry pressing to protect the delicate fruit flavours and prevent any extraction of course phenolic character. The juice is then cooled to 10c, all within 15 minutes of harvest. This ensures the true varietal and regional characters are captured and retained. The juice is then cold settled for 24 hours before it is racked of the fine lees and cool fermented in stainless steel vats. It is fermented to produce a naturally dry wine. Bottled with minimal filtration and fining. Wakefield St Andrews Riesling is a wine of great delicacy and finesse that will age well.
