Description

Yangarra Estate Blanc is white wine blend produced from grapes grown in the McLaren Vale wine-growing region. It is a multi-variety blend consisting of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Gris and Picquepoul Blanc.

Yangarra Estate is owned by Jackson Family Wines (JFW). The Chairman and proprietor of Jackson Family Wines is Barbara Banke who was marrried to Jess Jackson of Kendall Jackson Fame. JFW had a vision to create a global wine company known for its extraordinary premium and luxury wines from many of the greatest wine-growing regions of the world. Indeed, under Barbara’s stewardship they have since become one of the world’s largest, and high quality, wine companies with interests in California (La Crema, Hartford Court, Camelot Highlands and many more), Chile, Italy, France and South Africa with their new Capensis project.

Yangarra Estate was established in 2001 when Jackson Family Wines acquired Eringa Park Vineyard. It is a single vineyards estate located in McLaren Vale and specializes in Southern Rhône varieties with emphasis on the estate’s bush-vine Grenache. The property is 170 total hectares, of which nearly 90 hectares are planted to vine. Other grapes varieties grown here include well known grape varieties such as Shiraz, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc with some much more obscure varieties (at least in Australia) such as Bourboulenc, Picpoul Noir, Clairette Blanc and Counois. Yangarra’s combination of rare geologies, moderate altitude, abundant sunshine and refreshing evening breezes make it perfect for growing varieties that thrive in the moderate maritime Mediterranean environments. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic.

The Yangarra Estate Blanc is the result of years of research and exploration into the best white varieties hailing from the ancient north-west Mediterranean. These are some of the classic French grape varieties that can be found in many of the great white wines of the Rhone Valley, like Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc. The grapes come from the Blewitt Springs area of McLaren Vale and are planted on sandy loam over clay, sandy loam mottled with ironstone fragments over clay. The Grenache Blanc was picked and pressed to tank. Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Clairette and Grenache Gris were hand picked and basket pressed independently with fine free run separated. All juice extracted to stainless steel tank then transferred for fermentation in old French oak hogsheads and barriques. Matured in barrel on lees for 6 months before blending.

The blend for the 2022 is 80% Grenache blanc, 6% Roussanne, 6% Bourboulenc, 5% Clairette, 2% Grenache Gris and 1% Piquepoul Blanc.
