Some Young Punks Quickie Sauvignon Blanc
Probably the sauciest Some Young Punks label so far!! I assume that Quickie is the young lady on the the label, as the label says “Oh, what a girl was Quickie! When There’s No Time To Think, There’s More Time For Love.” The label is actually from a real Pulp Fiction novel (as is the Passion Has Red Lips).

You might know the wine from Some Young Punks – Lust Collides, Double Love Trouble, Passion Has Red Lips, The Squids Fist, Monsters Monsters Attack Riesling – they all have pretty funky labels and pretty funky (in a good way) contents. It is always interesting to see how customers respond to these labels in the shelf. Some people dismiss them outright, some people are intrigued and will buy some, and it is not easy to guess who will buy them and who won’t. People just don’t conform to stereotypes. At Fareham Wine Cellar we have never sold a wine just because of the label, it really is about the quality of the wine inside. Indeed, some of the best wines we have sold over the years have had the worst labels – I am particularly thinking of a Spanish Merlot we used to sell with a Roman Bacchanalian type orgy on the front. Regardless of the labels, the wines from Some Young Punks stand up on their own as good wines.
So what is the Some Young Punks Quickie? The Quickie is 100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from vineyards in the southern Adelaide Hills wine-growing region of Australia. As you might expect from the SYPs, this is not a straight forward Sauvignon Blanc. Some of the wine undergoes some barrel fermentation and some “solids fermentation to male things a little rocking.” This is a generous, upfront wine with good crispness, minerality and crunchy passionfruit flavours leading to a lively, dry finish.
Tasting Notes – The Quickie has a very pale straw colour with a faint greenish tinge. The nose is floral (blossom), with a slightly green herbaceous note and a background confectionery note. The palate is full and rounded and is reminiscent of a tropical fruit salad, packed with definite passion fruit, lychee and mango flavours. The palate is dry and crisp but this is deceptive because there is a good burst of natural sweetness at the front of the palate as well. A great, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc with a good mineral backbone.
