The Symington Family are one of the largest and most important producers of Port wines. You may not have heard of the name, but you will have heard the Port Houses that they own which include Dow, Graham, Warre and Cockburn amongst others. Matthew Nutt works for John E Fells who represent the Symington’s Ports in the UK.
This will be a sit down tutored tasting to provide a general introduction to the mains styles of Port and they are made. We will taste through the various styles of Port beginning with a white Port, through the various style of Ruby (bottle aged Ports) through to Vintage Port. The tasting will then be finished with a couple of Tawny Ports (barrel aged Ports).
Ports for Tasting
Graham’s Fine White Port
Dow’s Late Bottled Vintage (LBV)
Smith Woodhouse Magdalena Vintage Port
Warre’s Quinta da Cavadinha Vintage Port (Single Quinta Port)
Graham’s 10 Year Old Tawny Port
Graham’s 30 Year Old Tawny Port
Edit: 12/10/17
Thank you to everyone who came along to our Port Tasting Evening. I hope you found it as enjoyable and interesting I did. Moreover a big thank you to Matt for taking the time out of his busy schedule to spend an evening with us showing the some of the Symington Family’s fantastic Ports.
The highlights for me were the Grahams Crusted (bottled 2012), the Grahams 1997 Vintage Port and the Graham’s 30 year old Tawny, although I thought the Smith Woodhouse Magdalena Port was very good and the 2011 Dows LBV were very good wines too.
