Hinch Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey is a new whiskey made in County Down, Northern Ireland. A sweet, rich and peaty style, one for the Peatheads!
Hinch Irish Whiskey was founded by well-known Belfast businessman Dr Terry Cross OBE. He is currently building a new distillery and £14 million visitor centre on the Killaney Estate near the town of Ballynahinch, after which the whiskey is named (Baile na hlnse in Irish, means “The Town of the Island”). The distillery is a twenty minute drive from Belfast city centre and should be finished in 2021. This will not be Cross’s first foray into the drinks business, he also owns and produces wine at Chateau de La Ligne in the Bordeaux region of France. Hinch was named as one of the brands to watch in the Irish spirits category for 2019 by the Spirits Business.
Whilst the distillery is being built, and stocks of whiskey are being built up, a core range has been introduced made from whiskies sourced from third party suppliers. The master distiller has created a small range of blended whiskies which consists of Hinch Small Batch, the 5 Year Old Double Wood, the 10 Year Old Sherry Cask, and a Pot Still and Peated Single Malt. There is also a gin called Ninth Wave Gin. The water source for the distillery is the Silent Valley Reservoir which is reputed to be the cleanest water in Ireland.
Hinch Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey is triple distilled in pot stills, matured in ex-Bourbon casks and bottled as a no-age statement whiskey at 43% ABV.
