Description

Louis Jadot Pernand Vergelesses Clos de La Croix de Pierre is a white Burgundy form the Cote de Beaune wine-growing region of Burgundy. The vineyards of Pernand-Vergelesses are located next to Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-les-Beaune. They are very well oriented, facing East- South-Ouest. Their altitude varies from 260 to 380 m.

Maison Louis Jadot is one of the largest and most famous wine producers and negociants in the Burgundy wine-growing region. The origins of the company date back to 1859 when the business was founded by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. Over time the company has acquired plots of vines is some of the most prestigious vineyards in the region including Beaune Clos des Ursules, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and many more. Louis Jadot owns or directly controls 120 ha in the Côte d’Or, including over 90 individual vineyard sites, 84ha in the Beaujolais Crus and 18ha in the Mâconnais primarily in Pouilly Fuissé (they own the fantastic Domaine Ferret). Today the business is headed by Pierre-Henry Gagey, son of André Gagey, who was entrusted with the management of Louis Jadot in 1962 by Madame Jadot following the tragic death of her son.

The grapes for Louis Jadot Pernand Vergelesses Clos de La Croix de Pierre wine come from a single, walled vineyard or “clos”. It is named “Clos de la Croix de Pierre” after the ancient stone cross located at the entrance of the vineyard and it is located next to the famous premier cru En Caradeux and is not far from the very typical village of Pernand. The soil is calcarous and very stony on the surface. Most of this vineyard is planted with Pinot Noir but there are also plantings Chardonnay.

The grapes are harvested by hand into small wooden crates to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented in wooden barrels, from Jadot’s own cooperage, a third of which are new. Finally the wine is matured on the fine lees for 15 months prior to bottling.

Tasting Notes

Louis Jadot Pernand Vergelesses Clos de La Croix de Pierre has aromas of white fruit, citrus fruit, blossom and a hint of subtle oak. It is well-balanced with an medium weight and has flavours of more white fruits, with lovely acidity and a long, mineral finish.
