St Michael Eppan Pinot Grigio is made at the San Michele Appiano winery. The San Michele Appiano winery was established in 1907 and is a co-operative consisting of 350 wine-making families who have bewtween them 370 hectares of vineyard and produces 2.5 million bottles every year. It is recognised as one of the very best wineries in Alto Adige the north of Italy. The expertise of Master Winemaker, Hans Terzer, led the Gambero Rosso to rank him among the ‘Top 10 Master Winemakers in the World’ in 2000. In the same year the winery itself was named ‘Winery of the year’ by the Gambero Rosso, the first time a co-operative was awarded this accolade. St Michael Eppan Pinot Grigio from their Linea Classica is 100% Pinot Grigio sourced from several different vineyards in the Appiano area (from the municipalities of St. Michael and Kaltern). The grapes are hand harvested mid-September and undergo fermentation (and partial malolactic fementation) in stainless steel tanks.
