Tannu Bianco Terre Siciliane IGT is an organic wine from Sicily made from 70% Grillo and 30% Chardonnay and is made by a company called Orion Wines.
Orion Wines is a company created to bring together interesting wines from small growers and wineries from all over Italy. The company was created by Luca Pomaro and winemaker Alessandro Michelon and Orion Wines retains complete control over the vineyards and growers they work with. The idea is to produce wines from indigenous grapes that express the typicity of the particular region where they are grown.
The organic vineyards for the Tannu Bianco Terre Siciliane IGT are located in the province of Trapani in Sicily. The vineyard are approximately 25 years old. The two different grape varieties are vinified separately but using the same technique. The grapes are destemmed, pressed and the must is chilled and left to rest for 48 hours. The juice undergoes temperature contolled fermentation at 17C for 10 days. After fermentation the wine is chilled to 10C to avoid malolactic fermentation and it is left on it lees for 20 days to increase complexity and aromas. The wine is aged for 2 months in bottle prior to release.
Tannu means “back when” in Sicilian as in “back to when agriculture was completely natural”. No fertilisers and no pesticides are used to make this organic white wine.
Tannu Bianco is perfect on its own or to accompany white meats, fish, pasta with white sauces.
Tannu Bianco Terre Siciliane IGT has an elegant pale yellow hue, with a bouquet reminiscent of pineapple and lemon. The palate is fresh and crisp, with a great minerality and a long and lingering finish
